It’s been a while since my last post and a fair amount has been going on. I finished Mallorca Half Ironman with 3 minutes and 8 seconds to spare. I got engaged. I changed jobs. I got injured. And now I have a huge amount of weight that I could do without. But I’m back to it now and with more focus than ever.
Ian and I have booked our wedding for October next year. We’re very excited! But, naturally, planning a wedding won’t be stressful enough on its own, so I’ve decided I should aim to do the full Ironman next year as well. I know I gave myself a deadline of July 2020, but this way I should be able to get into my dress without too much extra effort!
Of course, it’s going to be a huge challenge. I’ve decided to raise money for Dogs for Good again. Last year, in Mallorca, I raised £750 for the charity. This year, with a bit of help from my new company, I’m hoping to raise over £5,000! I’ll need to think of some interesting ways of getting people’s attention. I’m hoping a weekly training blog will be a good start.
I’ve already started on the training. I’m back to 5 or 6 days a week. I think I might join a gym to get some strength and conditioning in over the winter. This weekend I did my first Parkrun in over a year. It was very wet. I also did my first 20 miles ride out on the road in months. It was more enjoyable than running in the rain. I think I’m going to aim to do a monthly time trial for running, cycling and swimming to see how I’m getting on. Ian has also bought me a Wahoo Kickr smart turbo trainer to help me train through the winter when I can’t go out on the bike. It’s great, but think it’ll take some time to get used to.
So, I’ve made a good start. And not too soon either as last Monday I booked my place in Ironman Italy on 21st September 2019!
